The pre-treatment installation must meet Australian standards, Workplace Health and Safety standards and our guidelines. If a product has been recommended to you but it isn't listed here, call us on 9616 2485 or 1300 985 227 to check if it's suitable. Pre-treatment items we've listed

To ensure your grease trap meets our requirements to treat trade wastewater, you must:

  • ensure it's the right size for your business needs
  • arrange for a licensed plumber to install it
  • use only lids or covers specified by the manufacturer for the installation
  • ensure the installation and lids meet Australian Standards, Workplace Health and Safety standards, and our guidelines in the Plumbing for retail food businesses fact sheet
  • ensure adequate clearance above the grease trap (at least equal to the deepest part of the grease trap) to allow for safe, easy access to clean and inspect it
  • ensure stands, walkways and steps meet Australian Standards and Workplace Health and Safety guidelines.

You can only use these grease extractors where site-specific conditions, including restricted space, prevent you installing a 1,000L grease trap.

You must:

  • provide a report from a hydraulic consultant outlining why a grease trap can't be installed
     
  • get our permission before installation
     
  • arrange for a licensed plumber to install the grease extractor
     
  • ensure the installation and lids meet Australian Standards, Workplace Health and Safety standards and our Plumbing for retail food businesses guidelines
  • ensure adequate clearance above the grease trap (at least equal to the deepest part of the grease trap) to allow for safe, easy access to clean and inspect it
     
  • ensure stands, walkways and steps meet Australian Standards and Workplace Health and Safety guidelines.
